Birthday Photo-shoot

It’s been a long time since I posted a blog. Not had the inspiration in a while as photography seemed most distant with the turmoil in my consultancy activity getting in the way. Now that I’ve moved out of one permanent job into a contract role to be followed very soon by another contract position things will hopefully settle down, and I can concentrate on taking pictures.

I have recently had a milestone birthday and my wife and I organised a studio photo-shoot as a gathering for family and friends. It worked really well and everyone that turned up joined in with enthusiasm and joy. The importance of my birthday can be judged on the fact that my present was a new Nikon D600 camera body!! I used this camera in the studio and I will be posting a gallery of images soon. As a taster, the photo of my wife in this post was taken at the gathering.

Website Refresh

I have made a few changes to the website to hopefully make it a bit less cumbersome and concentrating the photo galleries under one menu heading.  The Buy Prints listing has been deleted but where there are prints for sale from a shoot it will be possible for clients to make purchases from the gallery site.  The ‘About’ page has been updated and refreshed with some text that makes it clearer about what I am as a photographer and my aspirations.

Take a look at the new Architecture Gallery Page

I would appreciate any comments that you have about these changes and any other suggestion that users may have about the website.

Long Absence – Update

Just in case anyone is interested, the gallery pages of the website have now been fixed.  I have nothing but high praise for the support that I have received from the Photocrati team on this occasion and in the past.  The response from Drew of the support team was quick and informed and solved the problem without any drama.

Anyway, onwards and upwards and please check back to see the changes. Feel free to comment either blog the postings or through the feedback form.

Long Absence

It has been quite a while since I last looked at my website and added to the blog posts.  There have been a few issues that have been getting in the way of my photography and my life in general. There has been nothing serious, just general life issues – work, family etc.

Anyway, nothing has really changed but I will be trying to update this website more frequently in the coming months.  As a start I have logged into admin and found that there were loads of spam comments that I had to deal with and numerous updates to the WordPress core software, the theme and various plug-ins.  Now, it appears that my galleries are not working,  but I’m not sure if that is as a result of the updates or they stopped working a while ago as my set up gradually became out of date.

Getting the galleries functional again is a priority as it is what this website is all about.  If any one is out there reading this and you you have a suggest a remedy then please get in touch.

End Of …

“End Of …” is the title of the end of course show for the students of the Foundation Degree course in Professional Photography from the City of Bristol College.  The show finishes today (15th June) and has been open to the public from Saturday (11th June).  We had a well attended and successful preview evening on Friday for family, friends and invited guests.  There was no overall theme for the show but it was intended to be a showcase of individual styles.

The Centrespace Gallery in Bristol was an excellent venue for show if a little hard to find for the casual visitor being tucked away in Leonard Lane, off Corn Street.  The work of the 19 students, covered a wide variety of styles and concepts from glamour to abstract.  I’ll publish some images from the show in a later post so watch this space but I have added my exhibition photographs to the “Photographs” page of this website where it is also possible to buy prints.  Click Here

… All Set Now

Sunset over Crete

Sunset over Crete

I have spent most of the day messing around with a logo designs as the previous version was a little to much of a cliche and for some in the family was not simple enough.  The result is a simple use of my name with a bit of theme matching colour and some minor adjustments to letter spacing.

After about a week of toil: installing WordPress, deciding on a theme, learning how to make posts and pages and then configuring stuff like plugins and menus, I think that I am finally at the stage where I have the foundations of a website that I can easily add images and regularly update and refresh with blog posts.

If there is anybody listening out there then I would appreciate feedback on my efforts and suggestions for further development.

An Image to Tempt …

The Second Severn Crossing & the Severn Estuary

The Second Severn Crossing

The whole point of this website is photography.  So I thought I had better post an image straight away.

This image is one of a set that I have been working on for my latest college assignment.  I have taken them all in the littoral environment utilising  using ultra long exposures to transform the movement of the sea and clouds into an ethereal blur.  I’m sure that I will be posting a gallery of all the photos from this set soon but for now here is the most recent shot.  The shot of the Second Severn Crossing was taken from the English side of the River Severn which at that position is facing almost due West.

Adding Content

I knew it would happen…  As soon as I started developing from scratch using WordPress it was inevitable that someone would come along and see the under belly of the construction.  I suppose that this is the problem with using a Content Management System such as WP where the site is constructed online and live.

Paddy was that person to come along and I appreciate his comments.  The site is not good and I too preferred the old version.  It is my aim to create something that is as good but is more easily maintained and hence will be fresher.  If this CMS approach does not work then I can easily go back to crafting the site as I have always done using offline applications such as Dreamweaver.

The aim of tonights efforts will be to find a theme which is simple yet stylish – I have an idea of what I am looking for and perhaps post some images.  Also, I have to do some thinking about preparing for college tomorrow and an all important job interview!  Not too busy an evening then.

UPDATE I have now got to grips with managing the look of my website using WordPress and I hope you will agree it is looking much better. 14/4/2011

Under Construction

I don’t like to leave websites in this sort of state, but this one is definitely under construction.  Please return in the near future to see what I have done with it.  This is my first experience with WordPress so be gentle with me if I do not make quick progress at getting it running or there are mistakes and errors.

I’m hoping to create a website that users will enjoy coming to and to keep it fresh and current.
